Things are going pretty well for the Chicago Bears, but the same cannot be said for their NFC North rival, as the Green Bay Packers have fired head coach Mike McCarthy.
The Packers, who have lost five of their last six games, made the decision on Sunday after losing to the lowly Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field.
The team announced that Joe Philbin has been hired as the team’s interim head coach.
“The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers,” the team said in a statement. “We want to thank Mike, his wife Jessica, and the rest of the McCarthy family for all that they have done for the Packers and the Green Bay and Wisconsin communities. We will immediately begin the process of selecting the next head coach of the Green Bay Packers.”
In his 13-year career with the Packers, McCarthy posted a record of 125-77-2, and led the Packers to a Super Bowl title in 2010.
Philbin and the Packers will be at Soldier Field in two weeks when they play the Bears on Dec. 16.
