Virginia Tech Back In The Top 25

Remember them good ol' days when you could rely on Virginia Tech to feast out on cupcakes before suffering a baffling, inevitable collapse at the end of the year? Or am I just conflating their early 2000's with memories of Clemson? Anyways, it seems that more recently, VT's developed a different script of sorts- lose quickly to an early season darling, muck through a couple sloppy conference wins, and next thing you know, oh crap- they're back in the thick of things and probably will win the ACC again on some San Antonio Spurs "not them again" tip.

So, 2008 ... drop one to an East Carolina time that's fallen off so spectacularly over the past two weeks, you might think the earth really was flat. And now, after a couple of close wins against what is presumptively their top competition in the division and a signature (I suppose) W over Nebraska, VT sits at #19 as the lone ranked team in the ACC. And they might be favored in every game they play from here on out- Maryland's dangerous, but it's in Blacksburg. They have to travel to the Florida schools, but who knows how much of a homefield advantage Dolphins Stadium packs and Florida State tends to get pwned pretty hard by the Hokies. They close out with two games in Lane against Duke and Virginia, and god only knows how much they'll win the last one by. Mind you, I have no idea how these guys would fare in the Orange Bowl against a Missouri or what have you, but still, it's hard not to think of another school in the Old Dominion that would give up several toes for a "rebuilding" year like this one.
