Roger Huerta Will Walk Away from UFC to Seek an Acting Career

The Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight Roger Huerta plans to leave the UFC and focus full-time on acting.

Huerta told Sherdog that he's willing to honor the one fight remaining on his current contract, but he won't be signing a new deal with the organization. That contradicts previous reports that he had already signed a five-fight extension.

Huerta is not the only MMA athlete to turn to acting. Strikeforce fighter Cung Le has also put his MMA career on hold and made acting his top priority, and Randy Couture has indicated that his next fight will come only after his next movie is done shooting. Every MMA fighter has the necessary physical skills to do the fight scenes in action movies, and if in addition to knowing how to fight they're also attractive and well-spoken, fighters are going to find work in Hollywood.

But Huerta says he'll be back in the Octagon eventually.

"The UFC is my home and it is my family and eventually I'll come back," Huerta said. "Pursuing the modeling and acting thing, that's kind of where I'm at right now. The fighting will always be there."
