I guess we'll get to see if Rex Grossman has grown up as a quarterback over the course of the next month. Bears starting QB Kyle Orton, who was emerging as a really solid NFL player right in front of our very eyes, will be sidelined for about a month with a high ankle sprain.
This is a big blow to the Bears. Sure, Grossman was at the helm when the Bears came back yesterday. Said comeback was, however, mostly due to the defense and running game. It was also against the worst team in football at home. The Tennessee Titans come to town this coming Sunday, so things get a little tougher for the maligned QB.
The thing about Grossman is that he has talent. He just never learned from his penchant to turn the ball over. He never made an adjustment, because he never acknowledged that he needed to make adjustments. You can't play gunslinger while routinely giving games away. Let's hope he zeroes in and a lot more conservative than he has in the past. If not, the Bears won't be heading to the playoffs.
If the Bears can simply manage a split in four games before Orton makes it back, however, I like the chances of seeing them play in January.
