Why Devin Hester Shouldn't Grumble About Playing Time

When the Bears started bringing in more wide receivers, the team's current receivers were worried about how often they would get the ball. Devin Hester talked in the pre-season about the Hester package of plays. But three games in, he has just two catches for 27 yards. That has him grumbling.

"It's hard being one of the top electrifying players in the league and you're not able to get your hands on the ball as much as you want," Hester told ESPNChicago.com on Friday.

OK, Devin, let's talk for a second. On special teams, you are one of the most electrifying players on the league. Every time you'd in the backfield waiting for a punt, we know you can bust loose for a touchdown. You have a well-earned reputation of being a threat to score on every return.

But on offense? Enh. You are above average. Sometimes, you're not right where you need to be on routes. When Jay Cutler threw you a pass in the end zone last week, you couldn't get up to catch it. The fact that you have just two catches is not just because the Bears aren't throwing you the ball as often. It's also because you aren't the most electrifying player on offense.

If you could merge the special teams player with the guy on offense? Perfect. You're going to get the ball more often.
