Bears Snap 4-Game Losing Streak, Beat Lions at Soldier Field

The Bears are now 4-5 on the season after the win

It wasn't easy, but the Chicago Bears beat the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Soldier Field and snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Lions drove down the field in the closing seconds of the game, but Jeff Driskel's fourth down heave to the end zone fell incomplete, and the Bears escaped with the victory.

Mitchell Trubisky threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns in the game, and David Montgomery rushed for 60 yards in the victory.

Allen Robinson was the team's leading pass catcher on the day, hauling in six receptions for 86 yards. Taylor Gabriel and Tarik Cohen both caught touchdown passes, and Ben Braunecker registered his first career touchdown catch in the game.

Playing in relief of Matthew Stafford, Driskel threw for 269 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for a team-high 37 yards in the contest.

The Bears were trailing 6-0 late in the first half when their offense finally clicked into gear. Trubisky lofted a perfect ball to Braunecker in the corner of the end zone, and Chicago headed into the break with a 7-6 lead.

The good offensive times kept rolling in the third quarter as the Bears scored two more touchdowns. After Cohen scored on a screen pass to make it 13-6, the Bears forced a turnover deep in Detroit territory and scored on a touchdown pass to Gabriel, establishing a 20-6 lead.

Undaunted, the Lions made it a game in the fourth quarter when Driskel found Kenny Golladay for a 47-yard touchdown pass, shrinking Chicago's advantage to 20-13.

The Lions got the ball back late in the contest, but when Driskel crossed the line of scrimmage and threw an incomplete pass in the closing seconds, the game came to an end with the Bears securing the win.

The Bears will have a primetime matchup in Week 11 when they head to Los Angeles to take on the Rams. Kickoff on Nov. 17 is set for 7:20 p.m., and the game will air on NBC 5.

2:41 p.m.

Just when it looked like the Bears' defense had the game well under control, the Lions strike quickly, as Jeff Driskel finds Kenny Golladay for a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Matt Prater boots through the extra point, and it's 20-13 Bears with 5:53 remaining in the game.

2:19 p.m.

The frenetic scoring pace has slowed down at Soldier Field, but the Bears remain ahead of the Lions by a 20-6 margin as the third quarter ends.

The Lions have run 51 plays but have just 201 yards of offense.

1:55 p.m.

Mitchell Trubisky now has 147 yards passing and three touchdowns after finding Taylor Gabriel in the end zone. Bears now lead 20-6 and are showing more offensive push than they have at any point in recent memory.

1:52 p.m.

And the Bears get the ball right back, as Nick Kwiatkoski picks off Jeff Driskel and returns the ball to the Detroit 25-yard line.

1:47 p.m.

The Bears come out firing after halftime, putting up a 5-play, 76 yard touchdown drive. Trubisky finds Tarik Cohen on a screen pass, and Cohen does the rest as he scampers into the end zone.

Eddy Piñeiro missed the extra point wide right, but the Bears still lead 13-6 early in the third quarter.

1:24 p.m.

The Bears hold their first lead of the day after a stellar 10 play, 80 yard touchdown drive. Mitchell Trubisky finds Ben Braunecker in the end zone for a touchdown with 25 seconds remaining in the first half, and Eddy Piñeiro drills through the extra point to make it a 7-6 Chicago lead.

1:15 p.m.

The Bears still trail 6-0 after Matt Prater bombs in a long field goal. The Bears' offense is continuing to struggle with the two minute warning looming.

12:52 p.m.

The Bears say that Danny Trevathan is officially questionable to return with an elbow injury.

12:48 p.m.

A week after getting one first down in the first half of their game against the Eagles, the Bears have one first down through three drives in their game against the Lions. The Bears also have 28 total yards of offense so far.

12:34 p.m.

The Bears are down 3-0 after the first quarter. Chicago has 19 total yards of offense on eight total plays in the game so far.

12:26 p.m.

The Bears and Lions trade unsuccessful drives, but the bigger news for Chicago is the health of Danny Trevathan, as the linebacker ran off the field after tackling Jeff Driskel.

Trevathan removed himself from the game and is being looked at by Bears trainers.

12:13 p.m.

The Lions get the ball first and march down the field on a 13-play, 72 yard drive. After a Jeff Driskel pass falls incomplete, the Lions are forced to settle for a Matt Prater field goal, giving them a 3-0 lead six minutes into the game.

Driskel hit 5-of-6 passes for 56 yards on the opening drive.

11:30 a.m.

The Chicago Bears will be mostly healthy when they take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Soldier Field, but their opponent can’t say the same as quarterback Matthew Stafford will miss the game due to a back injury.

Stafford, who had started 136 consecutive games for the Lions, is dealing with broken bones in his back and a hip injury, and doctors would not clear him to play against the Bears on Sunday.

Jeff Driskel will take Stafford’s place in the Lions’ lineup. Driskel, drafted by the 49ers in the 206 NFL Draft, has appeared in nine career games, throwing six touchdown passes and two interceptions. He started five games for the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2018 season before signing with the Lions.

The Lions will also be without safeties Miles Killebrew and Tracy Walker, cornerback Michael Jackson, defensive linemen Da’Shawn Hand and Romeo Okwara, and offensive lineman Beau Benzschawel.

The Bears officially ruled out linebacker Isaiah Irving as he continues to deal with a quad issue, but their inactives list mostly looks the same from previous weeks. Tight end Adam Shaheen is a new addition, as he won’t be on the field Sunday, but Alex Bars, Abdullah Anderson, Riley Ridley, Josh Woods, and Duke Shelley will also be out for the team in the divisional contest.

The Bears are currently 1-1 against the NFC North this season, winning their game against the Minnesota Vikings and falling to the Green Bay Packers in the first week of the regular season.
