Cutler Has Bears GM's Support

Chicago Bears General Manager Phil Emery gave a quarterly report Wednesday on his 4-1 Bears.

He's cautiously optimistic about their post season hopes.

That's not the case when it comes to defending quarterback Jay Cutler.  Emery is stedfast in his support for the signal caller.

"I'm a Jay Cutler fan" Emery said, "I believe in what he's doing as a quarterback and you look at the simple things.  9-1 in the last 10 games, 22-10 over the last three years.  Those stats say something in that we have a winner at a key position for our franchise."

Some may have expected a less enthusiastic endorsement after Cutler shoved  lineman J'Marcus Webb, and shrugged off  Offensive Coordinator Mike Tice. But Emery -- who presumably is the "powers-that-be" Cutler referred to in the post dustup -- is effusive in his praise.  He compared Cutler's antics to a family squabble -- and not a big deal.

"At the end of the day are we all going in the same direction in a positive way?" Emery asked.  "We have a passion for one another. Are we allowing each other to move towards excellence?  Are we there to help one another with true love and understanding for each other and do we have a commitment towards moving forward?"

Emery answered his own question, "When I look at Jay Cutler the answer is yes."
