Bill Walton, Jason Benetti to Call White Sox Game Aug. 16

Broadcaster Steve Stone will have the Angels series off, paving the way for Walton's baseball debut

Chicago White Sox fans are in for what can only be described as a unique evening on Aug. 16, as basketball legend Bill Walton will join TV broadcaster Jason Benetti in the booth for a game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The game, which will be broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago, will featuring a reunion of the occasional broadcast partners. Walton has called several games with Benetti over the years, including the 2018 Maui Invitational college basketball tournament.

“Doing a game with Bill Walton is a gift,” Benetti said in a statement. “His mind is a playground, an orchestra, and a volcano all rolled into one. It is impossible to think of someone who takes the audience and his broadcast partner on more of a journey through the world, and to have that next to me is an honor and a treat.”

While we’re unsure of how accurate Walton’s quote, given in a White Sox press release is, it still warrants repeating, just to give fans a taste of what they can expect during the game.

“The pressure is on now, but please, set your standards higher, Jason,” Walton said, allegedly, while riding his bike in the middle of a massive lava flow in the desert. “Here I thought all along I was a trembling and exploding rainbow, morphing into a bus stop. I guess I’m going to have to reinvent myself one more time.”

For more stories of Walton’s incredible journeys through life, White Sox fans can tune into the game beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 16.
