The Chicago Red Stars were dealt a serious blow on the injury front Thursday, as forward Michele Vasconcelos has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2019 season.
Vasconcelos, who has two goals and three assists in 11 games this season for the Red Stars, suffered a torn ACL in her left knee, the team announced in a press release on Thursday.
The forward sustained the injury while playing against Sky Blue FC on Sunday, the team said.
In her career with the club, Vasconcelos has appeared in 30 matches and has scored three goals in NWSL action.
The Red Stars will be back in action on Saturday night when they take on the Houston Dash in a road match. The club will be back in Chicago on July 21 when they welcome back their World Cup-winning stars from Team USA, including Alyssa Naeher and Julie Ertz. The Red Stars will face the North Carolina Courage in the match at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview.
