Meet The Chicago Marathon Runners

Participants and supporters race to McCormick Place for the Expo and runner Packet Pick-up.

Participants and supporters arrive Friday at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo at McCormick Place Convention Center to pick up their runner packets and browse merchandise and the latest in running footwear, apparel, nutrition and technology.
"I had heart failure in 2005 and once my heart recovered I wanted to do this. I've participated in a triathlon before and I'm running the Chicago Marathon for the American Heart Association," said runner Jill Russell about why she chose to run this year's marathon. "If I can do this, you can do this. It takes determination and persistence, but you can do it too."

“I ran this race 10 years ago, and this time I’m running it with my daughter.” Jesse Uhrman and his daughter, Molly Uhrman, are both participants in this year’s marathon.

"A lot of people say the finish line is the best feeling in the race. For me, it's the start." David Carson will be running the Chicago Marathon for the fourth time, this time in honor of his upcoming 50th birthday.

When asked why she chose to run the Chicago Marathon, participant Dion Bos responded, "it's on my bucket list." Her husband Bryan Bos's response: "I was forced to, but I've had a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to it."

Christina Raggio began training as soon as she signed up for the Chicago Marathon in February. "This is my twelfth marathon. Running is a passion of mine and the Chicago Marathon is one of the biggest races in the world so I decided to do it."

“I registered two years ago but got a stress fracture so I came here on crutches. This is my redemption race.” Henry Cojulun’s advice for runners? “Take it slow, enjoy it, take it all in and enjoy the sounds.”

This is Nancy Ramirez’s sixth time running the Chicago Marathon. “This year I’m running for the Chicago Fire Foundation.” She states one reason she loves running is that “the Chicago Marathon has one of the best looking medals!”

Husband and wife Adrian and Rose Adame, both Chicago residents, are no stranger to races but have never ran in the Chicago Marathon. "I've done races from 5K to ultra marathons, but never the Chicago marathon," said Adrian. This is Rose's fourth marathon and first Chicago Marathon.

Marathon participant Anna Monroy's advice for aspiring runners? "Just follow what you want to do. The reward is always the best, it makes you feel better and proud of yourself."

"This is a one-time thing for me. It's my first marathon and probably my last," said runner Chris Kostouros. "I just hope I can finish." Chris was accompanied by his wife and supporter Christina Kostouros.
