Kane Named All-Star Alternate Captain

Patrick Kane  will get the call as an alternate captain in next weekend's NHL All-star game.

Kane joins Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Nicklas Lidstrom's team.

Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks and Mike Green of the Washington Capitols were named alternate captains on Eric Staal's team.

The honor means Kane must work with his bitter Detroit Red Wings rival during the 18 round All-Star Player Fantasy draft Friday, January 28th.

Kane stands in an interesting position. Will he sway his All-Star teammates to select his Blackhawks team captain, Jonathan Toews and Blackhawks alternative captains, Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp who all three remain in the pool of All-Stars or go along with a different cast?

The NHL and NHL players association picked the alternate captains with input from some players. Patrick Kane's appointment is a bit interesting, considering both Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews sit higher than Kane in team stats this year. (Maybe it's a reward for his game winning, Stanley Cup clinching goal last June.)

The All-Star teams hit the ice together in the skills competition on the Saturday, the 29th and the All-Star game itself Sunday, January 30th.
