Khalil Mack Honored as NFC Defensive Player of the Month

Mack has a league-leading five sacks and has been instrumental in the Bears' success

Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack has run roughshod over the NFL since joining the team this season, and he was honored Thursday as the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for his efforts.

Mack, who has five sacks, four forced fumbles, and 17 total tackles in four games this season, is the first Bears player to win the honor since cornerback Charles Tillman received it in October of 2012.

The Bears acquired Mack just before the season from the Oakland Raiders, and he has been worth every penny of the contract extension the team inked him to after that trade. He registered a forced fumble, interception return for a touchdown, and a sack in that game, and despite the Bears’ loss he was an absolute monster in limited action.

Since then, Mack has continued to surge, registering two sacks against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 and picking up another strip-sack against Tampa Bay in Week 4.

Mack and the Bears are off this week as they enjoy their bye, but they’ll be back in action on Oct. 14 when they head to Miami to take on the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium.
