Despite shaky play from the offense, the Chicago Bears' defense led the team to a 23-6 win over the St. Louis Rams at Soldier Field on Sunday.
The defense was the star of the game, as the Bears notched six sacks of the Rams led by Israel Idonije with 2.5. Major Wright scored a touchdown on a pass tipped by Tim Jennings. The offense was consistently given good field position because of the defense's ability to bottle up Rams quarterback Sam Bradford.
Danny Amendola, who was leading the NFL in reception yards coming into week two, was held to five catches for 66 yards. The Rams had only 59 yards on the ground.
Defense was so important because the defense had a hard time finding any rhythm. Jay Cutler finished the day by making 17 of 31 passes for 183 yards as he wasn't connecting with receivers.
Michael Bush, filling in for the injured Matt Forte, played well with 18 rushes for 55 yards and a touchdown. However, Bush couldn't give the Bears the same playmaking ability that Forte can.
Special teams played a key role in the win, as well. Devin Hester didn't break out for any touchdowns or huge runs, but he did set the Bears up with good returns several times. Robbie Gould hit three field goals, including a 54-yarder.
Next Sunday, the Bears will head to Jacksonville to face the struggling Jaguars. While the defense is clicking, the Bears offense will still have some work to do.
