The Chicago Cubs have had a massive weekend against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and thanks to their offensive outburst they have done something they haven’t done in more than a century.

The Cubs, who scored 31 runs in their first two games against the Pirates in the weekend series, added 16 more on Sunday, giving them a total of 47 runs in the three game series.

According to Cubs team historian Ed Hartig, that total is the highest the Cubs have scored in a three game series since at least 1900, besting a mark of 44 set way back in 1930. 

The 1894 Cubs did score 48 runs in a three-game series against the Pirates, according to Hartig’s research.

Hartig also revealed that the Cubs are now just the fourth team since 1908 to score 14 or more runs in three consecutive games, joining the 1928 Pirates, 1930 Cubs, and 1993 Detroit Tigers.
