Chicago Cubs officials on Monday sent starter Matt Garza to the Texas Rangers.
The right-hander had been long coveted by the Rangers and was among the best available pitchers before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
In return, Chicago picked up infielder Mike Olt, right-handed pitcher Justin Grimm, right-handed pitcher C.J. Edwards and two yet-to-be-named players.
There were numerous reports Monday, all citing major league or unidentified sources, that Texas had a deal to acquire Garza.
Garza had been scheduled to pitch for the Cubs on Monday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
