Anthony Rizzo Makes Interesting Fashion Choice on Flight to D.C.

The Chicago Cubs are getting set to play a make-up game in Washington D.C. on Thursday, and first baseman Anthony Rizzo may have thrown some subtle shade at Major League Baseball on the way there.

The Cubs, who are playing through a stretch where they have games scheduled on 30 straight days, flew out to Washington after their game against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, but Rizzo traded pajamas for his baseball uniform:

“Staying game ready,” Rizzo tweeted.

Rizzo also posted the photo on Instagram, asking Hurricane Florence to stay away from D.C. so the Cubs could get the game in, and asking the storm to turn north and completely miss landfall on the U.S. coastline.

When Rizzo arrived at the ballpark, he was still wearing his uniform, and teammate Kris Bryant confirmed that Rizzo did not bring a change of clothes with him on the trip.

Rizzo’s outfit choice, complete with eyeblack and cleats, could be construed as a criticism of the league’s decision to make the Cubs make up the postponed game on what was supposed to be an off-day. The team is involved in a tight divisional race, and they have only one scheduled off day for the remainder of the season.
