Is D. Rose's Demeanor Reason For Lack of Foul Calls?

Derrick Rose is shooting 90 percent from the free throw line, but has only taken 10 attempts in the Bulls first three games

Derrick Rose has struggled with his shooting this season. But one place where he’s actually shot well is at the free-throw line where he’s shooting 90 percent. Still, when you consider that in the Bulls first three regular season games D. Rose has only taken ten free-throws, that denotes something of a problem.

Rose, who’s game has always been predicated on aggressive drives to the basket, doesn’t appear to be getting the "superstar calls" that most players of his caliber in the league get. This has been an issue going back a couple of seasons and Tom Thibodeau thinks his star’s demeanor may have something to do with it.

"I’ll say this: I don’t know of anyone who drives as hard as he does. Nor as fast as he does," said Thibodeau to the Chicago Tribune after the Bulls three-hour practice on Monday. "And I think sometimes he’s penalized for being a nice guy. I’ll leave it at that."

Thibs seemed to tread lightly in his comments regarding officiating so as not to be subject to a fine by the league, and D. Rose also took the high road as well when asked about his lack of appearances at the charity stripe.

"I can't complain about it,” said Rose. "It's just the way the game is going. All I can do is continue to drive and I guess try to get fouled. I guess I'm not getting fouled or I guess [the referees] just have to get used to me. I understand I'm creating some contact, so I'm just trying to play through it."
