Former Bulls Guard Ben Gordon Open to Returning to Chicago

A free agent next summer, the former Bulls guard isn't ruling out a possible return to the Bulls

Before things went sour between himself and management, Ben Gordon had quickly established himself as the best player on the roster in his five seasons with the Bulls. After becoming the only rookie to ever win the Sixth Man of the Year award, then averaging nearly 21 points per game as a full-time starter in his final season in the Windy City, Gordon signed a five-year, $55 million contract with the Detroit Pistons as a free agent in the summer of ’09.

But his career has been in decline ever since, as he’s been mostly been relegated to a bench role and fill-in starter, both in Detroit and now in Charlotte. In fact, Gordon saw his first minutes of the 2013-14 season against the Bulls on Monday night, playing nine minutes and scoring four points.

But next summer, Ben Gordon will once again be a free agent and would be open to coming back to Chicago, a la Kirk Hinrich, if the team were to be interested in his services once again.

"I had a lot of success here, had a great time here," Gordon said to the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday. "I'm not in a position to rule anybody out."

Gordon still maintains a condo in the South Loop during the offseason and as it relates to the Bulls, much like Nate Robinson, he’s a player who can get his own shot and stretch the defense with his ability to shoot from long range as he’s a 40 percent shooter from behind the three-point line in his career.

With money seemingly not his highest priority as it was before, Gordon says he’s much more interested in being a part of a championship team as he enters the latter stage of his career.

"I'm at the point now where I would love to win a championship before I'm done playing," Gordon said. "I won one in high school and college, so I want to put myself in that type of situation. I feel it would complete my career."
