Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Erik Gustafsson has agreed to a one-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.
Gustafsson, who spent the 2016-17 season with the Rockford IceHogs, is regarded as one of the top defensemen in the team’s system, and he will likely compete with a roster spot with the Blackhawks next year.
The 25-year-old racked up 25 assists and scored five goals in 68 games with the IceHogs a season ago. He has 14 assists in 41 career NHL games, all with the Blackhawks.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, per team policy.
