Blackhawks to Open 2019-20 Season Overseas, Report Says

The Blackhawks played in Finland during the 2009-10 season

According to a new report, the Chicago Blackhawks are going to have to get their passports ready for an early season trip for the 2019-20 campaign.

That report, from HockeyCentral’s John Shannon, says that the Blackhawks will open next season against the Philadelphia Flyers in the Czech Republic capital of Prague.

In all likelihood, the teams will play a pair of games in Europe, as the NHL has done with its overseas games in recent years.

The Blackhawks last opened their season in Europe back in 2009, when they played the Florida Panthers in Helsinki, Finland. The Blackhawks split the two games with the Panthers, as they lost their first game and won their second, a 4-0 victory with Antti Niemi in net.

Blackhawks fans will also remember that the team went on to win the Stanley Cup that season, so could there be another bit of Cup magic in the Blackhawks as they make their season debut on another continent?
