White Sox Say Farquhar Showing ‘Signs of Progress'

Chicago White Sox pitcher Danny Farquhar "continues to show signs of progress" after collapsing during last Friday’s game against the Houston Astros, the team reported Thursday.

In a tweet, the White Sox said Farquhar, who was last said to be in critical but neurologically stable condition at Rush University Medical Center, "has even taken a few short walks on the ICU floor with his wife, Lexie."

Farquhar’s medical team reported Monday that he "is progressing well following a successful surgery Saturday to address the aneurysm. Farquhar has use of his extremities, is responding appropriately to questions and commands and is speaking to doctors and his family," according to an earlier statement.

Farquhar, who pitched the sixth inning of the game, suffered a brain hemorrhage in the dugout afer the inning and was rushed to a local hospital. Later testing revealed a ruptured aneurysm that caused his brain to bleed, the White Sox said in a statement.

Doctors said he continues to receive treatment and the neurosurgical team is monitoring him closely. He is expected to remain in the neurosurgical ICU at Rush for the next few weeks.

Fans interested is sending “Get Well” wishes and letters of support to Farquhar should address mail to him at Guaranteed Rate Field, 333 W. 35th Street, Chicago, IL 60616.

"It crushes us in this clubhouse," pitcher James Shields said. "Nothing really matters baseball-wise when something like that happens, you know?"
