A person familiar with the situation says the Chicago White Sox are promoting general manager Ken Williams and assistant GM Rick Hahn.

The person spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because the team has not made an official announcement. That will come at a news conference scheduled for Friday morning.

It was not clear what exactly their new job titles will be.

Williams is the fourth-longest tenured GM in baseball at the moment. He just completed his 12th season, a run that included a championship in 2005 that ended an 87-year drought along with another division title in 2008.
