Yolmer Sánchez Captures A.L. Gold Glove Award

Sánchez's award is his first as a big leaguer

For the first time in his career, Chicago White Sox second baseman Yolmer Sánchez is a Gold Glove Award winner as he captured the prize on Sunday night.

Sánchez, who appeared in 149 games for the White Sox at second base this season, bested Houston Astros star Jose Altuve and New York Yankees standout D.J. LeMahieu for the prize, given out to the best second defensive second baseman in the American League.

LeMahieu has won three Gold Gloves in his career, while Altuve won the prize in 2015.

In the 149 games that Sánchez played at second base, he posted a .987 fielding percentage, recording a total of 248 putouts and 416 assists. He made nine errors on the season in 673 chances, and had a defensive runs saved above average of 11, according to Baseball Reference.
