Before Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber stormed onto the scene and became a World Series hero for the team, he was a baseball star at the Indiana University, and he went back to his old stomping grounds on Wednesday night.
Schwarber, who was drafted out of Indiana with the fourth overall pick of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Cubs, was the honorary captain for the basketball team as they took on the University of North Carolina in a battle of two of the most storied programs in college basketball, and he got a hero’s welcome as he stepped onto the court:

During his collegiate career, Schwarber was one of the best hitters in the entire country, slugging 40 home runs and driving in 149 RBI during his three seasons in Bloomington. He also posted a staggering on-base percentage of .437 and an even more impressive 1.044 OPS in his college days.
The good times continued to roll in the pros for Schwarber, as he came back from a torn ACL and played a pivotal role in the Cubs’ World Series title over the Indians. In the series, Schwarber batted .412 as the Cubs won in seven games for their first championship in over a century.
