The Chicago White Sox have been dealing with injuries this spring, and yet another high-profile prospect got bad news on Saturday afternoon.
According to the team, outfield prospect Luis Robert injured his thumb during the team’s win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, and he is expected to miss approximately 10 weeks due to the injury.
“Luis has been diagnosed with a moderate sprain of the ligament in his left thumb,” the Sox said in a statement. “His hand will be immobilized for approximately six weeks, and he is expected to return to game action in approximately 10 weeks.”
The injury occurred while Robert was sliding into second base in the game, and he promptly hit a grand slam in his next at-bat.
“It’s pretty impressive pain tolerance by this young man,” White Sox G.M. Rick Hahn said. “It also speaks to the speed of the potential recovery.
In discussing the injury, Hahn lamented the fact that Robert’s spring is done, but said that all things considered, the team isn’t worried about any long-term impact on his development.
“It’s obviously not an ideal situation but considering we want him playing in games in May, it’s not too horrible,” he said.

The White Sox have also seen Eloy Jimenez miss time with a knee issue, and pitcher Carlos Rodon won't pitch this spring as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery.
