Lance Lynn Among White Sox' Changes Ahead of Field of Dreams Game

Field of Dreams game changes for Sox, including Lynn start originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Chicago White Sox had to make some last-minute changes before taking the field within a field Thursday night in Iowa.

Carlos Rodón, the scheduled starting pitcher, went on the injured list Wednesday, forcing him to miss the Field of Dreams game against the New York Yankees.

The White Sox juggled their rotation and will send Lance Lynn, who was originally slated to start Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins, in the Hawkeye State. Reynaldo López started an impromptu bullpen day Wednesday in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Meanwhile, White Sox manager Tony La Russa informed Wednesday that he will miss Thursday's Field of Dreams game while attending the funeral of his sister's husband in Florida. Bench coach Miguel Cairo will manage in his place in Iowa.

"He's such a conscientious guy. He's been talking about the Yankees with me the last three days," La Russa said. "I guarantee you, nobody will be paying more attention in that game than he will."

As for Lynn, he said Wednesday that he was a fan of the movie growing up as a Midwesterner in Indiana, where they've also got a good deal of corn, if a shortage of baseball ghosts.

"Being a Midwest kid, that was kind of a cool movie growing up," he said. "But half the team we have here are probably too young to realize what the movie was. So for us older guys, it probably has a little bit more meaning to be a part of something like this, especially when that movie growing up was one of the ones you watched as a baseball movie.

"Whenever you're playing the Yankees anywhere, and then doing it in a place like this, it should be an interesting and a fun night."

Lynn, like Rodón, is in the middle of a Cy Young caliber campaign and figures to provide a quality performance in Thursday night's showcase game for the first-place White Sox. He played for the Yankees in 2018. This will be his fifth career start against the Bronx Bombers, who have won 11 of their last 15 games.
