Kris Bryant Sprains Ankle vs. Nationals Wednesday

The Chicago Cubs are dealing with yet another injury in their lineup, as third baseman Kris Bryant suffered a sprained ankle in Wednesday's loss to the Washington Nationals.

Bryant, the reigning National League MVP, was forced to leave the game after suffering the injury. The third baseman was catching a routine pop-up when he stepped awkwardly on third base with his right foot, causing his ankle to roll.

Trainers had to help Bryant off the field, and his teammates helped him down the tunnel to the locker room.

After the game, the Cubs called Bryant's ankle sprain "mild to moderate," but said that X-rays on the ankle were negative.

A decision has not been made yet on whether Bryant will need to be placed on the disabled list.

With Addison Russell out, Bryant likely won't be replaced at third base by Javier Baez, but will instead be replaced in the short term by Jeimer Candelario and Tommy La Stella.
