Watch: Bryant emotional after getting word of trade originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
After years of his name being in trade rumors, it happened.
The Cubs dealt star third baseman Kris Bryant on Friday, sending him to the San Francisco Giants before the trade deadline.
Bryant was with the Cubs in Washington when he found out about the trade. Video showed him taking a call in the Cubs dugout before Friday's game against the Nationals.
The four-time All-Star appeared emotional after hanging up the phone. He and Cubs hitting coach Anthony Iapoce shared a hug and Bryant appeared to wipe away tears.
The trade ends Bryant's memorable seven-season run with the Cubs in which he helped bring a championship to the North Side. The Cubs made five postseason appearances after Bryant debuted in 2015.
Bryant made four All-Star teams with the Cubs and took home NL MVP honors in 2016. He was a cornerstone player for the franchise, and seeing him go is a tough, emotional pill for fans to swallow.
