Javier Baez to Represent Puerto Rico in World Baseball Classic

During the World Series, Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez and Cleveland Indians infielder Francisco Lindor were on opposite sides of one of the most exciting series ever played, but next March, the two friends will unite behind a common goal.

According to Major League Baseball, Baez and Lindor, former high school rivals, will both represent Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, which will be contested in four different countries beginning on Mar. 6. The tournament, held every four years, features teams from 16 different nations.

Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa will also play for Puerto Rico in the tournament as they look to get back to the championship round after losing in the title game to the Dominican Republic in the 2013 edition.

Several other Cubs players are expected to participate in the tournament, including first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who will likely represent Team Italy, and Kris Bryant, who is expected to represent the United States in the event.

The tournament takes place during MLB spring training, and concludes with the finals at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
