Fireworks Go Off After Bryant's Homer During Cubs-Cardinals Game

The Chicago Cubs’ offense wasn’t the only thing exploding in St. Louis Monday night.

When Kris Bryant launched a home run in the second inning of the game against the Cardinals, a loud “boom” was heard, as the crew at Busch Stadium inadvertently set off fireworks in celebration of the long ball.

“There’s a Cubs spy in the firework department here,” Cubs announcer Jim Deshaies said.

The Cubs’ offense got off to a red hot start in the game, scoring four runs in the first inning en route to a 10-2 win over St. Louis. The victory knocked the Cardinals out of the division race and put the Cubs’ magic number to clinch the division title at just one.

Bryant’s blast wasn’t the only noteworthy moment in the game, either. Shortstop Addison Russell dove into the stands trying to catch a pop fly during the game, and knocked over a fan’s nacho platter.

A short time later, the shortstop returned to the scene of the incident with a fresh plate of nachos for the fan, who got to take a selfie with the infielder and enjoy some free food for his troubles.
