Cubs Make Roster Move as Steve Cishek Heads to Injured List

Cishek has a 3.58 ERA in 54 appearances this season

The Chicago Cubs have been dealt yet another injury in their bullpen, as reliever Steve Cishek is heading to the injured list with left hip inflammation.

Cishek, who has a 3-5 record and a 3.58 ERA in 54 appearances this season, is just the latest Cubs hurler to go down because of an injury, joining closer Craig Kimbrel and setup man Brandon Kintzler on the injured list.

Right-handed pitcher Dillon Maples will be called up from Triple-A Iowa to replace Cishek on the active roster, and will be available for Chicago as they take on the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night at the Great American Ballpark.

Maples has made 10 relief appearances with the Cubs this season, with a 1-0 record and a 5.63 ERA on the year. Control has been a concern, as he’s allowed 10 walks in eight innings, but he also has 13 strikeouts with good swing-and-miss stuff out of the bullpen.
