The Chicago Cubs are busy trying to lock up all of their arbitration-eligible players, and they reportedly inked a contract with one of their most important pitchers on Friday.

According to multiple reports, the Cubs agreed to terms on a one-year, $4.175 million deal with pitcher Kyle Hendricks to avoid salary arbitration.

Hendricks, who was a finalist for the 2016 Cy Young Award and picked up the series-clinching win in Game 6 of the NLCS that season, had a 3.03 ERA and 123 strikeouts in 24 starts for the Cubs during an injury-shortened 2017 campaign.

According to multiple reports, the Cubs also agreed to a one-year contract with infielder Tommy La Stella, which will pay him $950,000. La Stella hit .288 with five home runs and 22 RBI in 151 plate appearances for the Cubs last season, and will likely be a key back-up and left-handed bat in the team’s 2018 lineup.

Even with the signings, the Cubs still have a few very important players left to sign. Third baseman Kris Bryant is eligible for arbitration for the first time, as is shortstop Addison Russell. Relief pitcher Justin Grimm also is yet to sign a new deal with the Cubs, with teams and players set to exchange arbitration numbers on Friday.
