Mets, Giants to Play Wednesday to Determine Cubs' Playoff Opponent

The Chicago Cubs will play either the San Francisco Giants or the New York Mets in the first round of the National League playoffs after the Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.

The victory clinched the second wild card spot in the National League for the Giants, who will play the Mets at Citi Field in the NL wild card game on Wednesday night.

The winner of that game will then take on the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Friday in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.

In seven games against the Mets this season, the Cubs finished with a paltry 2-5 record, but a series against New York would give them an opportunity to avenge last season's NLCS sweep at the hands of the Mets.

Against the Giants, the Cubs were 4-3 this season. The Cubs have played the Giants in the postseason before, losing the 1989 NLCS to San Francisco, but the Cubs did beat the Giants in a one-game playoff to secure a wild card berth to the 1998 postseason.
