Cubs Place Addison Russell on 10-Day Disabled List

The Chicago Cubs will be seeing a lot more of Javier Baez at shortstop in the next few games, as Addison Russell has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Russell, who has 10 home runs and 36 RBI for the Cubs this season, was placed on the DL with a right foot strain, retroactive to Aug. 2.

The shortstop will be replaced on the team’s roster by reliever Rob Zastryzny. The hurler made one relief appearance for the Cubs earlier this season, giving up three runs in four innings of work in a game in May.

It’s unclear how long Russell will be out of the lineup, but he will be replaced at shortstop by Baez. The infielder has clubbed 14 home runs and driven in 43 RBI in 317 plate appearances this season while batting .266 for the Cubs, who begin a three-game series against the Washington Nationals on Friday afternoon.
