Bote lands on injured list after freak ankle injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
After a freak injury during batting practice Friday, the Cubs placed infielder David Bote on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain Saturday.
Bote was going through a baserunning drill before Friday's game against the White Sox when he stepped on a stray baseball sitting in between home plate and third base.
He rolled his right ankle and fell on the ground in visible pain before leaving the field with a trainer.

It's the second time Bote has gone on the injured list this season. He dislocated his left shoulder on the bases during a game in late May, missing all of June and most of July.
The Cubs called up first baseman Alfonso Rivas from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Rivas, 24, has posted a .284/.405/.411 slash line in 58 games with Iowa this season.

The Cubs acquired Rivas, who throws and bats left-handed, from the A's in January 2020 for infielder Tony Kemp.
The Cubs also designated relievers Ryan Meisinger and Jake Jewell for assignment, calling up right-hander Scott Effross from Iowa.
Meisinger gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in 7 1/3 innings with the Cubs, making seven appearances. Jewell gave up 12 runs (11 earned) in 10 innings across 10 appearances. He served as the Cubs' 27th man in Wednesday's doubleheader and was optioned back to Iowa after.
Effross has a 3.41 ERA in 31 appearances (29 in relief) between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa this season.
