Cubs Blown Out as Phillies Ruin Cole Hamels' Homecoming

Hamels faced the Phillies in Philadelphia for the first time as an opposing player

Chicago Cubs pitcher Cole Hamels will never forget his first ever start as an opposing player in the City of Brotherly Love, as the Philadelphia Phillies tagged him for eight earned runs in a 11-1 blowout victory.

Hamels worked just two innings for the Cubs, giving up eight earned runs and scattering nine hits as he struggled for his second consecutive start.

Bryce Harper pounded a pair of home runs in the game, and J.T. Realmuto hit his 17th home run of the season and drove in four RBI's in the victoy.

Kris Bryant hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Cubs' lone run of the evening.

Phillies fans gave Hamels a standing ovation before he took the mound in the first inning of the game, and they continued cheering as Harper launched an opposite field home run to give the club a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the contest.

In the second inning the Phillies continued their onslaught, with pitcher Aaron Nola picking up an RBI single and Rhys Hoskins driving in another run with a sacrifice fly.

The third inning provided more of the same as the Phillies scored six runs, including four on a grand slam by Realmuto to make it a 10-0 game after just three innings.

Cubs star Kris Bryant has had quite a career, and here are five fast facts about the All-Star.

From there, Alec Mills settled in, giving up just a solo home run to Harper in the sixth, but the damage had been done as the Cubs lost their second straight to the Phillies.

The Cubs will try to avoid the sweep on Thursday evening when they send Yu Darvish to the mound against Phillies hurler Drew Smyly.
