A few hearty souls sat through a cold night on the North Side to watch the Chicago White Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 in 12 innings in the first game of the 2014 Crosstown Classic.

Offense was in short supply throughout the game, with Sox rookie Jose Abreu -- the AL Player of the Month -- providing the South Siders only regular frame run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly.

Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija again took his squad on his back, starting off the 6th inning with a double and scoring on a sacrifice fly.

The Sox finally broke through in the top of the 12th inning with a two-out single by Alexi Ramirez. Tyler Flowers followed up with a walk, leading to an RBI double by Marcus Semien that proved to be the game winner.

Pitcher Justin Grimm later walked in another run to make it 3-1 and Matt Lindstrom retired the side in the bottom of the 12th to end the ball game.
