Cubs Place Craig Kimbrel On Injured List

Kimbrel is dealing with inflammation in his right elbow, but an MRI came back "clean," according to Theo Epstein

The Chicago Cubs are dealing with yet another injury setback in their bullpen, as closer Craig Kimbrel has been placed on the injured list.

Kimbrel, who has struggled badly in his first season with the Cubs, is dealing with right elbow inflammation, President Theo Epstein told reporters in Milwaukee Thursday.

Kimbrel has an 0-2 record with a 5.68 ERA in 21 appearances this season, and he's given up six home runs, one fewer than his career high of seven.

Epstein did say that Kimbrel underwent an MRI on the injury, which came back clean. The move is being made retroactively to Monday, meaning that Kimbrel will be eligible to be activated in one week.

This is Kimbrel's second stint on the injured list. He was knocked out of action in early August with inflammation in his right knee.

In a corresponding roster move, the Cubs have recalled infielder David Bote from Triple-A Iowa.
