White Sox Drop Both Games on Opening Day of Spring Training

Yoan Moncada had a pair of hits, an RBi, and a run scored

It was a rough day on the diamond for the Chicago White Sox, as they lost both of their games to kick off Cactus League action in the desert.

In their home opener, Donn Roach didn’t make it out of the first inning, giving up four earned runs as the White Sox fell 7-6 to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Camelback Ranch in Glendale.

Jon Jay went 1-for-2 with an RBI in his first game in a White Sox uniform, and Tim Anderson went 1-for-2 with a run scored in the contest.

For the Dodgers, their starters had a strong day at the office, with Justin Turner scoring a pair of runs and Joc Pederson driving in his first RBI of the spring. Austin Barnes went 2-for-3, and Russell Martin had a pair of RBI in the winning effort for the squad.

The story wasn’t much better over in Mesa, as the White Sox lost 6-5 to the Oakland A’s at HoHoKam Stadium. Yoan Moncada went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the game, and Daniel Palka also drove in a run in the game, but the Sox pitching wasn’t up to the task, as all five hurlers gave up at least one run in the game.

-Prospect Luis Gonzalez collected his first hit of the spring against the Dodgers in Glendale, but it wasn’t a very successful day for Luis Robert in Mesa, as he went 0-for-1 in his spring debut with the club.
