Dozier, Soler Power Royals Past White Sox

Jorge Soler hit his 44th home run of the season, and Hunter Dozier blasted a three-run go-ahead homer in the fifth

In a closely contested game that mirrored the season series between the two clubs, the Kansas City Royals came out on top Thursday afternoon, winning a 6-3 decision at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The victory gave the Royals the win in the season series as well, as they collected their 10th win in 19 games over the White Sox.

Red-hot Jorge Soler hit his 44th home run of the season for the Royals, and Hunter Dozier blasted a three-run home run to pace the Royals’ victory.

José Abreu, Eloy Jiménez, and Yolmer Sánchez all collected RBI’s for the White Sox in the losing effort.

Lucas Giolito set a franchise record with eight straight strikeouts during the game, but still ended up on the losing end of the score as he gave up five earned runs in six innings. He did rack up 12 strikeouts, putting him into the upper echelon of single-season White Sox pitching performances.

The Royals raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the game, but the White Sox slowly battled back, as Jiménez hit an RBI infield single in the third to make it a 2-1 game. Abreu hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to tie things up at 2-2.

Dozier un-tied the game in the sixth with a three-run home run that he launched into the left field bleachers to make it 5-2, and that was enough for the Royals to cruise to victory as they secured their second straight win over the South Siders.

The White Sox will now head out on a nine-game road trip starting on Friday night in Seattle. First pitch between the Mariners and White Sox is set for 9:10 p.m.
