Despite several comeback attempts, the Chicago White Sox couldn’t quite finish the job against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night, dropping an 8-6 decision at Guaranteed Rate Field.
A night after hitting a grand slam, Eloy Jiménez blasted a three-run home run in the first inning of Wednesday’s contest, driving in a total of four RBI’s in the loss. José Abreu also homered, but it wasn’t enough to keep the White Sox from dropped their 81st loss of the season.
Jorge Soler pounded two home runs for the Royals, including the eighth inning shot that provided the Royals with their two-run margin of victory in the game.
A game after throwing a one-hit shutout against Cleveland, Reynaldo López struggled badly, giving up four home runs and six total earned runs as he took the loss. Carson Fulmer gave up Soler’s home run and was charged with two earned runs in the eighth inning.

After Soler hit a two-run home run in the first to give the Royals the lead, Jiménez hammered a three-run home run to right field in the bottom of the frame to give the White Sox the lead.
The Royals then put on a power hitting clinic against López, hitting home runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to pull ahead 6-3.

After Jiménez notched an RBI groundout in the sixth, Soler hammered his second home run of the game to give the Royals an 8-4 lead in the eighth.
The White Sox wouldn’t go quietly however, as Abreu clobbered a 418-foot home run to left field in the bottom of the frame to make it an 8-6 game.
That was a close as the Sox could get, as Ian Kennedy earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning to end the contest.
The teams will wrap up their season series on Thursday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field. Both teams have won nine games thus far.
