Chicago White Sox May Not be Out on Bryce Harper After All, Report Says

Harper remains unsigned even as the spring training season gets underway

Despite reports earlier this week that the Chicago White Sox are out of the Bryce Harper sweepstakes, one report Saturday indicated that they could be hanging around the pursuit of the free agent outfielder.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the White Sox are remaining in touch on the Harper front as the outfielder remains unsigned with spring training games getting underway.

Additionally, Heyman shed some light on what the White Sox did to try to appeal to Harper when they brought him in for a visit to the Windy City during the offseason.

“While White Sox see asking price for Harper as beyond their comfort level, they remain in touch,” Heyman said. “At his visit to Chicago, an MJ statue was adorned with a Harper White Sox jersey.”

Reports this week have indicated that Harper still wants to exceed the money that infielder Manny Machado got in his new contract. Spurning the White Sox, Machado signed a 10-year deal worth $300 million with the San Diego Padres.
