Chicago Cubs Reliever Steve Cishek Reportedly ‘Day-to-Day' After Being Hit With Throw in Warm-Ups

Cishek was playing catch with a teammate when he was hit by a throw Wednesday

It was a scary scene in Colorado prior to the Chicago Cubs’ game against the Rockies, as Steve Cishek was reportedly carted off the field after being struck in the leg by an errant throw during warm-ups.

According to multiple reports, including from the Chicago Sun-Times, Cishek was playing catch with teammate Brandon Kintzler when he was hit in the knee by a throw from his fellow reliever. Cishek was ultimately carted off the field and back to the trainer’s room, according to reports.

Reports say that Cishek is considered “day-to-day” after being hit, and he is currently dealing with a bruised knee.

Cishek has been one of the team’s most important relievers this season, posting a 3.21 ERA and picking up six saves in 29 appearances. He has largely split the closer duties with Pedro Strop, and will likely be a seventh or eighth inning set-up man when Craig Kimbrel joins the team later this season.
