The Chicago Cubs have already announced their Opening Day starting pitcher, but now we know how the rest of the team’s rotation will shake out.
Jon Lester, who is slated to pitch the season opener against the Miami Marlins, slots into the top spot in the rotation, and he will be followed by fellow 2016 Cy Young Award finalist Kyle Hendricks.
Hendricks, who posted a 3.03 ERA in 24 starts last season, is looking for a rebound season after being sidelined with injuries early in the season. He managed to be the team’s most effective postseason pitcher, throwing a pair of strong games against the Washington Nationals in the Cubs’ opening round win.

New starter Yu Darvish, signed to a six-year deal earlier this month, will slot into the third spot in the rotation, and lefty starter Jose Quintana will occupy the fourth spot to open the season.
Tyler Chatwood, acquired early in the offseason with a three year contract, will be the team’s fifth starter, meaning that Mike Montgomery will open the season in the team’s bullpen.
The Cubs will open the 2018 season on a 10-game road trip that will take them through Miami, Milwaukee, and Cincinnati before returning to Wrigley Field for their home opener April 9 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
