One of Cubs' Top Prospects Among Spring Training Roster Cuts

The Chicago Cubs have made their first serious roster reduction of the spring, sending 13 players to their minor league camp.

The highest-profile players sent out of camp were right-handed pitcher Adbert Alzolay, widely considered the Cubs’ top pitching prospect, and pitcher Duane Underwood Jr. Both of those pitchers, along with pitcher Oscar De la Cruz, were sent to Double-A Tennessee.

Ten other players who were in camp as non-roster invitees were assigned to the team’s minor league camp:

Pitchers: Alberto Baldonado, Craig Brooks, Daniel Camarena, David Garner, Thomas Hatch, Michael Roth

Infielder: Jason Vosler

Outfielders: Charcer Burks, Bijan Rademacher

Catcher: Ian Rice

According to the Cubs, the team now has 49 players on its spring training roster, and will need to trim the roster down to 25 players before spring training concludes and the regular season begins.
