Chicago Cubs Demote Taylor Davis, Activate Victor Caratini From IL

Caratini had been out since mid-April with a broken bone

Despite having some success as Yu Darvish’s personal catcher, Taylor Davis has been sent down to Triple-A Iowa by the Chicago Cubs.

Davis, who hit .200 with one home run and four RBI in six games with the Cubs, caught for Darvish on Wednesday night as the hurler struck out 11 batters and didn’t walk any in what was likely his best start of the season.

Davis was sent down to make room on the active roster for Victor Caratini, who was activated from the 10-day disabled list on Thursday. Caratini suffered a fractured left hamate on April 12, and he will make his return to the mix on Thursday as he plays first base in the Cubs’ series finale against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs and Reds will wrap up their series on Thursday night at 5:40 p.m. José Quintana will take the ball for the North Siders as they look to win the rubber match against their Central Division rivals.
