Chicago Cubs Recall Closer Craig Kimbrel

Chicago Cubs fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of closer Craig Kimbrel on the North Side, and that's exactly what's about to happen.

The pitcher was recalled by the Cubs Thursday and will be available for the team's series finale against the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field.

In four appearances with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, Kimbrel posted a 2.45 ERA and struck out four batters in 3.2 innings of work. He was optioned to the club after signing a three-year contract with the Cubs earlier this month.

A corresponding roster move has not been announced by the team, but will likely be released prior to Thursday’s game.

Kimbrel began his big league career with the Atlanta Braves, registering 186 saves in five seasons with the team. He has a combined 333 saves for three different teams, and will hope to solidify the back end of the team’s bullpen when he arrives in Chicago.
