Chicago Cubs Make History in Series vs. Pirates

The Chicago Cubs lost their second straight game on Sunday afternoon to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and they made history in the process.

The Cubs, who won the first two games of the series, dropped a pair of one-run defeats on Saturday and Sunday, and scored only one run in each of the two games.

In fact, the Cubs only scored one run in each of the four games of the series, and all four came by virtue of a solo home run. According to Stats Inc., that feat has never been accomplished in a four-game series before, meaning the Cubs made some inglorious history in the series.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the nine combined runs scored by the Pirates and Cubs in the four game series are the fewest in a four-game set in nearly 60 years, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since 1958.

The Cubs will hope their offense can rebound after a day off Monday, as they take on the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Tuesday night.
