The Chicago Cubs are going to have to make deals with numerous arbitration-eligible players this offseason, but they reportedly got one deal done to get that process started.

According to FanCred’s Jon Heyman, the Cubs and pitcher Kyle Hendricks have agreed to a one-year deal that will pay the pitcher just over $7.4 million for the 2019 season, thereby avoiding salary arbitration.

Hendricks, who is eligible to become a free agent after the 2020 season, will make $7.405 million in the coming year.

In 33 starts last season, Hendricks posted a 3.44 ERA and a 14-11 record for the Cubs, striking out 161 batters in 199 innings of work.

Hendricks’ new salary marks a pay raise of over $3 million for the coming season.

The Cubs still have several players they will need to agree to terms with, including third baseman Kris Bryant and shortstop Javier Baez. Outfielder Kyle Schwarber and infielder Addison Russell are among the six Cubs players that are arbitration eligible.
