Former Cubs 2B Daniel Murphy Signs With Rockies, Reports Say

Murphy hit six home runs after being traded to the Cubs last season

Former Chicago Cubs second baseman Daniel Murphy has found a new home, as he’s reportedly signed a two-year contract with the Colorado Rockies.

Those reports, from Yahoo’s Jeff Passan and The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, say that Murphy has agreed to a two-year deal worth $24 million with Colorado.

After being traded to the Cubs last season, Murphy hit six home runs and drove in 13 RBI in 146 plate appearances, and posted a batting average of just under .300.

Despite the potential loss of second baseman D.J. LeMahieu, it appears that the Rockies will primarily play Murphy at first base, according to Rosenthal’s report on the signing.
